RECALL INFORMATION
Hotpoint has recalled 71,000 dishwashers as a potential fire hazard – a year after it was warned about safety problems with the products.
The company is facing questions about why it took so long to go public after being warned that a “disproportionate” number of fires had been caused by the appliances. It is believed that they had even been contacted by two fire brigades.
Since then it has managed to trace 7,000 of the machines – meaning 64,000 are still in homes across Britain and Ireland.
It is now warning everyone with the affected models to turn them off and unplug them as a precaution.
There have already been 85 cases of fires or smoke damage resulting from faulty Hotpoint dishwashers, it is reported.
Which? Magazine launched an investigation after government figures revealed that faulty appliances caused 6,000 household fires in 2010/2011.
